The meme posted above is very accurate. If someone is going somewhere, they more than likely will have to take a picture of it. Of course, all the girls take pictures before they go out to a party or another event and post to Instagram. If they didn't post a picture, then people won't believe that they were actually at that party or wherever they actually did go. Girls especially are overly obsessed with taking pictures, and I think one reason for that is so they can show people that they went out that night. Girls want attention so they post the best pictures of themselves to their social media website. In addition to the girls, there are also guys who post pictures just as frequently as the girls. The guys want to show how cool they are or what they're doing just as much as the girls do.
The meme just says "Pics or it didn't happen" so obviously the words explain everything. Once people see that meme, they will most likely automatically think of girls posting pictures on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook every single time they go out to a party or every time the girls look good enough to post a picture. To make the meme more specific, they could actually put a pictures of girls on Instagram and then the caption of the meme could say "Pics or it didn't happen." The meme isn't very creative because it basically just says the main point of the meme. It could be a little more creative so people who aren't associated with social media would understand. People who aren't apart of social media, who would primarily be older people, may not understand the meme because they would ask themselves why they would people post a picture every time they do something because they don't understand how the social media world works.

The thing that stuck out to me the most in Sucked into the Tunnels Beneath Las Vegas is how Matt O'Brian goes into the tunnels when he he's having a hard time. Also, how he brings food and other supplies to the people that are living in the tunnels. Even though homeless people are living down in the tunnels and some are doing drugs, I think that it is a good place to get away from the real streets of Las Vegas. Matt said it himself, "when work wasn't going all that great  or my relationship with my girlfriend wasn't all that great, I would strap on some boots and grab a flashlight and walk a tunnel to get away from everything above ground." Some people just need to get away from reality sometimes and I think that is a good place to go.
 In addition, I think that it is great that Matt would bring the homeless people food. Even though it may not be enough food for everyone, it can still help the people living down there a little bit, and it is good to know that people care for the homeless people like Matt does. With Vegas being as busy and crazy as it is, I think the tunnels beneath the Vegas streets is a great place to go, even if it is where some homeless people live. It would be much safer living in the tunnels rather than living on the actual streets of Vegas, especially for young children. One of the downfalls of it is that anyone can go down there and do drugs, such as meth, without anyone else knowing. Some of the people might feel more comfortable and more at home living in the tunnel, especially if people like Matt come and visit and sometime even bring food.

In my speech, I don't think I had one main point. I focused more on the history, what my culture was, and why Memorial Coliseum is important. I also didn't really have a thesis statement that I went off of, but I did have an attention catcher. I could have transitioned a little bit better, but I didn't think it was so bad.  When I spoke, I said like and um many times. When I get nervous I say that a lot, but don't even realize it until you actually hear it. I also talked really fast. I think I barely made the speech just long enough, but could have been a little bit longer. There was no video on mine, I could only hear it so I couldn't tell if I was doing any unnecessary hand gestures or playing with my hair. I thought I made eye contacts pretty well and didn't just stare at the slides or my notecards. I thought my slides were colorful. They weren't too much, just enough. I know I did not orally cite my pictures during my speech.

On my next speech, I will work on my speaking and not say like and um so much. I will also rehearse more so I am more prepared for my presentation. I will make sure I have a thesis statement to base my main point off of. Next time, my outline will be much better so I can have something prepared before I actually do the speech.

Memorial Coliseum was built as a memorial to the Kentuckians who died in WWI, WWII, and Korean War. For my pathos, I will tell the audience that my grandfather served in WWII and that is another reason why Memorial Coliseum is important to me and to others. For logos, I will tell the importance of Memorial and why it is important for people to know about Memorial. Also, explain why Memorial Coliseum is worth my time in researching about it. For my ethos, I will use my own context in explaining Memorial Coliseum. I will tell the audience what Memorial Coliseum is and what it is there for in my own way.

Research Memo

The source that I found is a website on Kentucky athletics. It talks about how Memorial Coliseum is a memorial to more than 10,000 Kentuckians who died in the World War I and the Korean Conflict. The source also states that there was a one million dollar renovation was done in 1990. The renovation consisted of a new weight training facility, new basketball and athletics administration offices, a player's lounge, and a team meeting room was added. After the renovation, the seating capacity went from 11,500 to 8,000. I didn't realize that they had done a renovation, and that is why the building is in good condition. Other than volleyball games, Memorial also holds women's basketball games and gymnastic meets. Many other activities are held at Memorial such as, sorority  events and other community events. By learning some new information from my secondary source, it changed my perspective a little bit because I was unaware that Memorial housed other sporting events, and I didn't realize how important of a place it really was.

Memorial Coliseum

Memorial Coliseum is a very old building. It does not have air conditioning. The only way that air circulates is four huge fans, two on each side of the building. This causes the building to be very hot and humid especially when there are big crowds in there, which happens quiet often.  The walls inside are brick. Inside of Memorial, there are big banners hanging up from when the men’s basketball team played in there. The banners are blue and they are huge. There are several banners and it really adds to the building. In the middle of the banners, is a huge score board. The score board is black, but numbers appear on it. The numbers that appear on the scoreboard are different colors. The scoreboard also gives stats of the players who are playing in the game. On the opposite side of the scoreboard, there is a huge screen that will play different little skits during the game. If something else is going on at memorial, it can show something that is related towards what is going on.

 When you walk inside of memorial coliseum for a volleyball game, there are very nice greeters that direct you towards the gym and they check your ID to make sure you are a student. Everyone who works there are really nice people and always willing to help someone out.  There are seats that are raised up from the floor so people can when there is a volleyball game or another type of show. When the volleyball team plays in memorial, it is very crowded and very loud. When there is a game, there are sit that surround the floor and then the seats that are higher up. The volleyball court is a different color than the rest of the floor. The court is gray and blue. Under the court, is hardwood floor, but the rest of building is concrete. The floor does not look clean at all, but that is probably because it is so old. Around the court, there are tables where people are sitting keeping score, announcing the game, and keeping stats. Also around the court, people are videotaping the game and taking pictures while the game is going on.  During the games, there is a concession stand. They sell normal concession food such as hotdogs, nachos, pretzels, soft drinks, and candy. The food tastes really good and the drinks are very cold.  During halftime, there are games that people will play out on the court, and they try to win free prizes.

The inside of memorial is kept up very well. Even though the floors look old, they are clean for the most part. The floor that surrounds the seats are kept clean. There is no food or other trash under the seats. The bathrooms are clean as well. The bathrooms are big. They are just like any other stadium’s bathrooms.  

Looking from the outside, memorial coliseum does look old at all. It looks well put together.  It also looks very big, which it is big in the inside too. Hanging from the building on the outside, are two huge banners of the volleyball players. The rest of the building is brick and more of a tan color.  They hang on each side of the building and are both blue. They change the banners several times throughout the year. There are several doors that can let you inside of the building. Around the building, there is nice landscaping. There are trees and flowers in front of the building. To the left of memorial, there is construction being done to build new dorms.  Directly in front of memorial coliseum, there is a main street that has a lot of traffic throughout the day. The student center is right across from memorial. There is a side walk on each side of the street, so many students pass memorial each day while they are walking to class or going to eat. Behind and towards the side of memorial coliseum, is the Joe Craft Center. People can walk from the Joe craft center into memorial coliseum. Behind memorial coliseum, is the parking lot and people can park there for free.

One space that I am looking at is Memorial Coliseum. I think this interesting because it's a memorial to the Kentuckians who died in World War I and the Korean War. Also, the UK volleyball team plays there and I love volleyball.

Another site that I am looking at is CSF, the Christian student fellowship located on campus. I think it's good to have something like this for students to get involved in and somewhere they can go to feel welcomed.

The quote from Marche's essay is, "The beauty of Facebook, the source of its power, is that it enables us to be social while sparing us the embarrassing reality of society—the accidental revelations we make at parties, the awkward pauses, the farting and the spilled drinks and the general gaucherie of face-to-face contact."

The reason I chose to write about this quote is because it is very true and very accurate to today's society . If people feel like they're in an awkward situation, they turn to their phone to make it seem as if they're busy doing something on their phones. The majority of the time, people will get on Facebook or twitter to see what other people are doing. People are so interested in other people's lives and they don't worry enough about their own. The young kids and teenagers in this generation avoid face-to-face contacts as much as possible and that is because technology is such a big part of their lives. They are so involved with their phones and computers that they think that is the only way to be social.

The quote from Mathieu's essay is, "Commodities that didn't exist until recently-such as gourmet coffee, cell phones, and sports-utility vehicles-are now things many swear they can't live without."


The reason I chose this quote is because it stood out to me while reading this essay. The quote above explains today's society. People think they can't live without their phone because it has become their whole life. People think they can't function throughout the day without coffee because coffee is what gets them through the day. Some people think that if they don't have the coolest or newest car, they won't be accepted by society. Our society builds up images that people think they have to be or have to look like and that is why people think they can't live without coffee, phones, or the sporty cars.
